It's never a loss if you buy what you like and don't get caught up in hype and speculation. There are much smarter ways to invest your money than comic books. If a book lands on a hot list because of the MCU, rumors etc - it's time to sell not buy.

Sticky Goose, I have always said only buy books you truly care and never buy what someone tells you to buy cause you will regret it.I been collecting comics for over 17 years now and only have two short boxes of keys, variants and stuff cause I buy what I care about and screw what everyone says to buy cause you should only buy books you want period.

I've honestly never understood grading. If the books looks good enough, then buy it. But paying these premiums just to get them graded is crazy

Just purchased ultimate fallout #4 .cgc 9.0 $278. X-men #2 ( 1st series '63 ) cgc 3.0 $450 ( the seller discounted $50 ) . Secret wars #8 cbs
7.0 $109. Prices are in freefall. Clean up whilst you can.

My biggest loss didn't include slabs, but about six years ago, I was "done" with comics, and wanted to sell my whole collection. Well, I called one of those "I buy comics" guys with the little signs, and he and GF came over. Instead of buying all, he cherry picked the keys and gave me pennies on the dollar! I'm talking Ghost Rider #1 and Marvel Spotlite #5 amongst others for $70!!! I still kick myself to this day for doing that....

I was on the other side of this situation. Back in 2008 I bought a bulk buy of The Incredible Hulk 271-300 from an US Ebay buyer, as I had them when I was younger. I paid about £30 in total including slow postage costs to the UK so on average £1 per book. 271 has become more valuable thanks to The Guardians films especially VOL 3. You win some, you lose some.

If you're going to crack high end books, I'd recommend sending it into CCS for screening first. Its worked every time for me.

Hey Sticky, I feel you man - in 2021 I bought Lois Lane #70 in 9.6 for around $9, 500 and sold it two years later for $6, 000 net... you feel me, right?

Comic books are always a gamble. Key Collector is one of the main influences. I paid $7000 for my Hulk 181 CGC 8.0. It’s now worth about $5000. I’ve Resubmitted it to CGC for the Roy Thomas signing. Hoping for a grade bump as not previously pressed.

Currently right now every comic is a loss.... Key Collector "prices" are so far off then the actual values the past 6 months. It's best to just buy what you want and never pay to much for those as well.
