I kind of love that the mother-daughter relationship seems supportive at first, like the first couple of generations allow their daughters to do magic how they please. But then in the middle, their vision gets skewed, and the mothers tell their daughters to pursue something specific, so that by the end, it feels like they're breaking away from magic entirely.
