How to Create Rectangle in GIMP

Learn how to draw a rectangle in GIMP editor.

In this video tutorial we will show you how to create rectangle in GIMP.
To create rectangle in GIMP, you must start the program. Go to the File Menu and press "New" to create new image.

Then press OK.

Now go to the Filters Menu and choose "Render" option. From a drop-down menu choose "Gfig" (Geometric figures filter).

In the following window select the "Create rectangle" option. In the preview window click the left mouse button and drag to create a rectangle.

If you don't want to have outlines on your rectangle uncheck "Stroke" box. If you want to add fill for your rectangle select fill type from the drop-down list. Choose the color. Press "Close" button.

Is there a way to increase the size of preview in gfig? I want to draw a rectangle on specific position, but the preview window is too small to see.

Is it really necessary for all these tutorials to begin with the step of opening Gimp and creating a new image and this and that? If I'm trying to figure out how to do a thing with an image I'm working on, I probably already have the damn thing open.

Even in Paint it's easier to draw rectangles... Now I understand why not everybody uses it

Is there a way to edit the shape after you've created it? Once you are done with creating it as in the video the shape becomes a permanent part of the background and cannot be edited. Any advice on how to edit? Thank you!

How do I make the rectangle transparent? I've tried sliding the transparency bar to the left but nothing's changing.

I can't belive this basic element works so bad in gimp. Just creating and sizing elipses circles and rectangles. It's super time consuming just to implement this. This is sick. Still using paint shop pro 5! Finnaly deciced to upgrade to something for this century but this is super disapointing.

It is the most comic method i ever saw for creating a simple rectangle in 25 years of graphics: you have to place a rectangle on your picture represented in a stamp?!?! (instead of drawing it directly on the picture) GIMP sucks so much! The best part of editors (online too, without installation and without "start the program") are better

Doesn't work... I tried for 30 minutes. It just creates a dotted selection line.
