This video, while extremely helpful, is a little tricky because he's actually Rooting an 8T.

He goes all through the process using the boot.img to root, then in the very last section he says "but for the Oneplus 13, you have to do this DIFFERENT thing." :p

Gotta use the "init_boot.img" for the Oneplus 13, so it's a little odd that he spent so much time with "boot.img", but it worked. Thanks! :)

Is it smart to root the version the phone comes with or to update to the latest version the phone supports and then root? Also, can you easily update after root, or does the update break it? Curious.

For anyone doing this on Magisk 26.2 or above it now needs the actual payload file, not the extract boot file, so you actually skip Step 5 now.
