Bucknell University Silicon Valley Tech Trek Overview

This is the first year the Freeman College of Management at Bucknell University offered this student experience with financial support from the College of Engineering. The opportunity was advertised to students from all majors and class years throughout the University. Over forty students applied to the experience. Twenty students were selected to participate in this one week trek to Silicon Valley and San Francisco to visit a variety of organizations and professionals who use data to make business decisions.

Student participants came from all three colleges at Bucknell: The College of Arts and Sciences, The College of Engineering and the Freeman College of Management. Two seniors, eight juniors, eight sophomores and two first year students were part of the Trek. Majors of the students range from several students in the five-year management and engineering program to Accounting and Financial Management, Markets, Innovation and Design, Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Math and Undecided Management.

Traveling with the twenty students was Professor Matt Bailey, Freeman College of Management, Associate Dean Mihai Banciu, Freeman College of Management, Param Bedi, Vice President of Library and IT and Missy Gutkowski, Director of Experiential Programs in the Freeman College of Management and coordinator of the Trek.
