Supply chain disruptions impact school lunch programs across the U.S.

The U.S. school lunch system is feeling the impact of the nation's supply chain disruptions. Shipping bottlenecks and labor shortages are limiting resources for school districts across the country. The rising cost of goods, coupled with the limited availability of products, are creating issues for millions of vulnerable students. Many of these kids rely on school lunches for a majority of their daily nutritional intake. Jeremy West, director of partnerships and engagement for the Urban School Food Alliance, joins CBSN to discuss.

I just talked with a friend that works for the railways/BNSF and he said they are lossing train engineers faster then they can hire them.

Energy prices are going to skyrocket higher then the news can keep up with it. If it doesn't travel on a truck or through a pipeline it travels on a train.

Trains also carry all those shipping containers.

Can you please talk about sensory issues with kids who are autistic, adhd, etc? Some of us can’t handle a lot of foods we’re forced to eat! I still can’t eat apples cuz the scraping on my teeth gives me chills. I can’t eat yogurt cuz it’s slimy. But I COULD eat uncrustables, bagels with cream cheese, pickles or vegetables with dressing! Or I’d have eaten what kids in Japan get! Miso soup heck yes!!! 😃Too bad we live in a one-size-fits-all system.

I used to work in the College of DuPage cafeteria. Cafeteria worker pay is way too low for what the job is worth, that’s for sure.

Tell the parents to pack lunches for there children. These free break fast an lunches seem great for a lot of parents but to send children to school with nothing is abuse... Time parents grew up there children should get a lunch but parents at this time shouldnt blame the schools. Most parents have enough to feed there children or are these kids going hungry during breaks...
