Parents seem to hit this sort of spacey, day dream state at a certain age specifically when out of the house and well away from familiar areas.

Like, maybe they're overwhelmed by new stimulus and aren't as capable of processing it all as they used to be? But heaven forbid their children point any of this out or try to take charge of the journey to keep everyone from getting lost.
