Technically, the circle is defined as such: if you are standing on that line at solar noon on the Winter soltsice, exactly half the sun will be above the horizon. At midnight on the Summer solstice, exactly half the sun dips below the horizon.

I miss my Aunt Artic. She was kind of cold and distant, but I understand she was much warmer in her youth....

That was brave of Capt. Cook and his crew to sail amongst ice in a frail wooden vessel.

I’m reading a book about Cook’s trip, called Chasing Venus right now! Pretty cool I came across a short that covers it. If anyone’s curious, Cook (aiding Charles Green) was sent by the British Royal Society in order to observe the second transit of Venus that occurred in 1769!

Been there, crossed the Circle and into the Realm of the Emperor Penguin. I have been deemed worthy to be an honorable member of the Order of the Red Nose (not to be confused with Blue Nose, which is Arctic; nor Shellbacks, which is the Equator).

He was actually correct about this. They were in all likelihood the first human beings ever to witness this place in all the history of the earth. The lonely continent is truly a fascinating place. It has a sort of sacredness; like a graveyard of the pre-human world.

The constellation Mensa (Table Mountain) traverses the sky directly overhead just above the circle and represents the only stellar constellation that one can't see directly overhead from some point of land.

Lance, a request, please: if you have info about the 100 meridian. Its such a vital part of America, influencing agricultural and land decisions. Tgis is the info I have thus far: to the west of the 100 meridian, there is only 4.5 inches of rain per year. To the east, it's 11 5 to 59.5 " per year. There are many decisions made because of this meridian. Abd a lot of people don't know about it. I'd be so grateful for any information.

I remember a few years ago I was wondering through Melbourne and stumbled upon a park to shade my pale blistering skin.
And I stumbled upon captain cooks old house.
There was a menagerie of Asian women dressed in I guess what was Georgian costumes being photographed by what I imagine was Chinese tourists.
I feel like Cook would have found it funny.
Then I had a walk around Carlton and I enjoyed the place.

In one of my my past lives, I was James Cook’s assistant. I distinctly remember Jim logging ”at 22 minutes after...”, NOT, ”at a quarter past eleven o’clock....”.

Thank you..i had often wondered who had crossed the 1st time.

The British are amazing maritime genius lusting for adventure . They always had such a formidable navy...which shriveled to where the late Queen's last celebration was on a barge with red carpet tossed on it. Wonder where things went wrong...

Cook, Flinders and Bligh were the three greatest navigators England produced. It was Flinders who popularised the name Australia.
