The political landscape in the U.S. has shifted once again. The midterm elections took place on Tuesday, and the results? It's a split. The Democrats have won back the House, while the Republicans have kept control of the Senate, even gaining a few seats. Although President Trump was not on the ballot, these elections were considered a referendum on his tumultuous first two years in office, and this Democrat push back signals a tougher time ahead for President Trump's agendas. Our Cha Sang-mi has this report.
The Democrats are strongly projected to take control of the House in Tuesdays' pivotal midterm elections.
Control of the House will allow Democrats to block President Trump's key agendas and re-open investigations against the Trump administration.
But despite this, President Donald Trump called the results a “tremendous success" after the Republicans retained control of the Senate.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas defeated his Democratic challenger Beto O'Rouke.
And the Republicans won some other key red-states like North Dakota, and Tennessee.
Republican businessman Mike Braun also beat the Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly in the battleground state of Indiana... where Trump won by 20 percentage points back in 2016.
When it comes to the governor race, two African-American Democratic candidates Stacey Abrams of Georgia and Andrew Gillum in Florida lost to their Republican challengers.
Meanwhile, according to the national exit poll provided by the RCP, nearly 44 percent of voters approve of President Trump's job performance, while 54 percent disapprove.
When it comes to issues at stake for voters, health care -- the fate of the Affordable Care Act -- which the Democrats emphasized during the campaign, was the main issue with over 40 percent, followed by immigration and the economy, with 23 and 21 percent, respectively.
