Will my boat pass it’s survey so I can get it re-insured? And what’s it like staying onboard in a dry dock alongside historic boats of all different sizes? And what beer will feature in Beer of the Week?!
All will be answered and more in this vlog - filmed at Northwich Drydock on Hunt’s Island in Northwich.

Mad props for helping with this video go to:

Hi Robbie ! - Just a note about the 'beer of the week' "Old Tom" (one of my favourites on draft).
When I was a 'stoodunt' at Liverpool, I went round a brewery tour of Robinsons, and the tour guide (when asked) said the reason its called Old Tom is that it (supposedly) smells like an old cat !!! It must be in brewing stage though, as it smells OK to me when I drink it 🙂
Brilliant series you are doing, love the drone shots that give it some context, the sound of your Lister engine brought back a few great memories.

Old Tom - there's a pub in a village in Herefordshire that used to sell a beer called Old Tom from the barrel. They had a challenge years ago whereby if you drank 5 pints of Old Tom, walked out of the pub to a phone box 1/4 mile away, phoned the pub then walked back you would get drinks on the house for the rest of the night. And to the best of my knowledge, no one ever succeeded.
I had 2 pints one night (on top of a couple or three of pints of 'normal' beer) and it put me on my @r5e - and I used to be in the navy!!!🙂

8.5%?!! Good grief, that's more than TWICE as much as the beer I normally drink, when I'm allowed to go to a pub! I've had about four bottles of beer since March 2020 because I seldom drink at home. Two of those were 3.8% - which is fine for me - and two were special. Belgian beer from Brugges, called Zot! (Exclamation mark included.) We (the enthusiastic hire boaters and myself who form a crew whenever we can) fell in love with "Zot! The fool of Brugges" on one of our many visits there, one of which was via the canal on a cruiser.

I am relieved and pleased for you, Robbie, that Naughty Lass passed her hull inspection. I have known a couple of boats that looked fine, yet had major hull defects that needed extensive (and costly) rework. One was a narrowboat that had a big area of basically ferrous oxide lace around the galley outfall. I'm genuinely pleased Naughty Lass is safe and insurable for future cranking mate!

The dreaded survey is progressing about as good as one can expect. Under your close supervision I fully expect the repairs and blacking go equally as well . Go Robbie!

Hi Robbie, in Robinsons Pubs - Old Tom is only sold in half pints where you can buy it on draught.
You can also by chocholate & ginger flavours - both very nice.
The Robinsons Visitors Centre in Stockport is well worth a visit if you are ever in Stockport. The Peak Forest canal at Woodley is probably nearest to the centre of town - approx 2 1/2 miles.

Great to see the dry dock in operation. Also nice to see Ilford again. We helped crew Ilford down the Tardebigge flight a few years ago. She was being towed on a long line at the time.

Ooooh...surveys are fraught times. What an interesting place and I spied quite a few historical vessels here and there 👍

Hi Robbie, I'm a wine drinker and I tend to go for the lighter German varieties (particularly as I live here) - you're catching me up with that %-age! My "standard" white is 9, 5%. I've been looking forward to the drydock and wasn't disappointed. Look forward to more!

Pro tip: Reheat pizza in a frying pan with a lid, medium high heat. Put pizza in and after a few minutes put a couple of teaspoons of water in the pan away from the pizza and put t'lid on tight. The water steams and stops the pizza from drying out, once hot through and cheese melted, take out and enjoy. Thank me later :)

You've found my favourite Bottled Ale. Currently available from Asda on special at £6 for 4 bottles. Rich, malty and warming, Old Tom has a distinctive deep port wine finish, with bitter hops balanced by the heady aromas of dark fruit. Keep up the good work.
