I never was in the USA, but my parents told me some stories. The best one is and definitely always will be that they wanted to walk to a hotel about 300 meters (around 1000 feet) away from where they started. On the way 5 cars stopped to ask if they should take them there. They declined the offer and explained that they just wanted to walk a bit and the Americans just looked at them confused.

I used to live in a 15 minute city. Population 1053 and 28 miles from everywhere. And damn i miss it..
