Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane - the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let's get into it! Cheers, Mark :)

Hey Mark I was wondering if you like'd this video idea: A day in the life of Self Sufficient Me. Take us through what a typical day is like for you, how much time you spend in the garden and what your typical tasks are. I'm sure other people are curious how many hours you put in to the veg, the animals, the yard etc. Would love to watch something like that! Cheers.

Hello from Alabama USA. I just wanted to let you and everyone else who might not know this, you can cook the giant purple mustard greens with your collard greens. You can also mix in Kale and turnip greens to the pot, be sure to add a smoked turkey neck or a few bullion cubes. Cook until tender and they are absolutely delicious😉.

I just moved to Carrollton, TX into a cosy Studio Apartment with great atmosphere and a top notch office staff that really cares. I'm 55 years old and have late stage Lyme Disease that I suppress with herbs. Most of my family had passed already so looking at things like my father's picture (he grew up in the crop land) and my mother's picture (who did not will her house to me, in favor of bequeathing me a Medical Trust Fund instead - a real blow at first) was something haven't been able to handle for a long time. But I really cannot tell you how much I enjoy liking your videos to support your channel now, during Covid-19. Because of you, I was inspired to "cherry pick" the good portions I remember of my parents, and all the time I spent with my father in the yard when he was puttering around. He wasn't too forthcoming about explaining things, because he was simply doing what he learned before he married my mother as stress relief. And so my mother's love for flowers became her form of stress relief too. Because of you, now I'm able to hang some of our old art work and memorabilia on the wall, and also start a beautiful seedling tray of both small-space patio flowers, PLUS, a longed-for "salad garden" ! Everything's keeping warm in my apartment closet at night, and getting moved near the patio door during the day in diffused sunlight. As a sheer novice, I took a 72 peat pellet tray with lid and sowed Bunching Onions, French Radish, Hybrid Yellow Crookneck Squash, Pickling Cucumber, Rocket and Giant Cesar Lettuce. I can't tell you how much you have helped me bring back all the beauty of memories submerged! THANK YOU!!

Spring soon in the USA. Be sure to plant extra this year, plant an extra row, plant an extra acre or just plant the whole pack of seeds instead of half and share with friends, neighbors and food banks in these troubled times.

I just started gardening 2 years ago when we bought our house. It’s now something I love. You have taught me and so many others so much Mark. Because of you many of us are much more prepared to feed our families during this crazy time. I can’t thank you enough sir. I wish you and your loved ones the best!

The trouble with raddish is that as fast growing as they are, my wife can eat them faster. Some people chase birds or possums out of their vegie patch. But, I have to chase my misus away with a broom.

Random tip for rocket when it is a bit too much to palet, I fry them up and use them in cheese and 'spinach' rolls or add balsamic and garlic with breakfast, it loses it bitterness

Don't forget the edible weeds like dandelion. Eat them, don't spray them.

Radishes rule! I have a dozen going in a used spinach container under LED lights, they are a delight to watch grow and look forward to harvesting. And I can have a nibble on the ones that need thinning.

I got my speckled pea microgreens today. I am soaking them for 24 hours and then I am planting them. I hope they grow. I also planted one potato that sprouted. Both in pots inside my apartment. I have never done this before I am excited.
