I think what's important to note here is how Isabella clarifies the 'misunderstanding' in the end, that she was just coincidentally harboring the same interes as Emma and the kids.

She knew deep inside she was lying. The only reason she said, it was because she felt like she didn't deserve another chance at being affectionate with her children. She knows they would never hold her accountable for her actions, so she tries to punish herself instead.

This scene was really incredible considering Isabella truly loved the kids like her own but the anime just doesn't match up to the manga which is my only disappointment

Edit: I've read the manga and it's only made me more disappointed in season 2. The Goldy Pond arc was incredible. It makes me really sad not to see Yuugo and the gang animated
