Buchla Easel Composition 1

I am a product specialist at Buchla, and it's my job to test systems and modules. Because I am a composer and synthesist, I always endeavor to find a creative way to verify proper functionality. This means, I'm often making music as a test.

I have recently started recording "tests" that turn out in ways that please me as compositions. This is one of the first examples.

The video was created out of content shot by Kendra Frost. Used with permission.

Ah finally. Assumed you would be doing something like this after talking with you in Berlin, but you're such a prolific guy, I don't always keep up with your video output. Glad to see you're rising to the Buchla challenge.

This reminds me *SO MUCH* of the music from the 1972 movie The Andromeda Strain. Love it!

I bought the Arturia emulation of this as I've always been intrigued by the Buchla Easel. It's very, very nice.

Sounds like a mad scientist in the basement of his spaceship being watched from the shadows by an alien Frankenstein. A guinea pig with human hands and feet. A sentient machine, toying with its human occupants. A massive void that somehow reverberates as you frantically throw screaming toasters into it.

maybe the universe is infinite or simply multiple reflections, changing  on the fabric of space time.

Great stuff! There are beautiful and interesting moments in this record. I also like the video.
The Easel is an instrument many want, but only a few have and even less make music on it.
It is quite difficult to get one in Germany, except importing at very high cost.

I had to turn it down, because I was afraid my neighbors would call the police! (; I think a big portion of this youtube provocateur masterpiece will be credited to the comments below. A work of art in progress (:

The 'woody' sounds is why I still hankering after a Buchla, or a clone, or anything! Would you say that it is all in the LoPassGate or are there more inherently Buchla electronics one would have to think about to go 'Wood' :D

This is VERY interesting. Thank you. It truly harkens back to a time when electronic music was new and exciting and not truly defined. Tape loops, busted lab equipment, modified recordings of everyday noise, etc. A time before Switched-On Bach (Which I DEARLY love) cemented the synthesizer as an equal tempered keyboard based traditional mimic machine. Which is perfectly fine in it's own right, but not at the expense of truly pushing the limits of the synthesizer's ability. Silver Apples of the Moon and Switched-On Bach are equally brilliant but Switched is easier as it's form is familiar. This is boundary pushing and never the same twice! Now I want an Easel, gee thanks!!

This is great! Made me feel like I was entering a very strange place and something awful was just about to happen and that I knew something bad was going to happen but I just kept ignoring the signs. Feels like this should be in a sci-fi, or horror movie or even in a documentary

Have you ever made music for film, tv or documentaries before ?

Metallic bass sounds remind me of Aphex Twin and also my modem in the 90s.

Are these sequences or the Buchla modulating itself?
