It's absolutely embarrassing. The caller told the truth, and Ian hounds him for it. He had a rare chance to interview someone with personal experience with the topic, and instead of exploring the story and giving everyone more info, he hangs up because he doesn't like the answer

Seems to me like a fair bit of ignorance and a missed opportunity on Ian's part. Isn't a big part of journalism being willing to engage with and listen to the viewpoints of people you don't agree with, even vehemently so? My brother is a journalist, and I've seen him do stories on people who are EXTREMELY different to his own values, but he engages with them so he can see how their views are formed, how that shapes their worldview, and why.
