Why is the universe organized the way it is? And why is it so empty? From planets and stars to superclusters and galactic filaments, the universe’s largest structures formed because of its smallest. In this special collaboration with PHD Comics, we’ll learn how the earliest, quantumest blips seeded the structure of everything everywhere.

Special thanks to Jorge Cham and Daniel Whiteson!

The largest things in the universe today exist because of the smallest things in the very beginning. That's pretty poetic, don't ya think?

Also, how do I look as a cartoon?

Imagine if one of the astronauts on the International space station came to this video and posted, "No, I'm not watching this on the earth."

How lucky I am ! I'm reading "we have no idea" this days, and yesterday night, I was just stopping in the middle of the very chapter !
That's awesome !

I borrowed ‘We Have No Idea’ from the library and have to say it’s probably one of the best physics I’ve ever read.

Why Is The Universe So Empty?
because it is filled with space.
but if it is filled, why is it empty?
wtf is happening?

I love these videos. They are presented in a way that even a plumber ( like me ) can understand. Thank you. Fun stuff.

"...and still a lot about what we don't know..." this is a beautiful statement.

I'd love to see the day come that we understand the composition of dark energy and whether it can be harnessed.

Still doesn't explain why I feel so empty inside.. 😢😢😢

Scientists in Norway have finally found a noise just prior to the Big Bang but unfortunately it is quite inaudible and hard to discern but the majority of scientists agree that's it's either :
" Ooops " or " Oh Shit "

trying to grasp the idea in the beginning while high has been a meditative experience

I love their book! And this video's worth a watch even if you have already read the chapter!

I have a question that I've always wondered about (and who knows, this could even be your next video idea)
When something gets sucked into a black hole, where does it go?
Does it stay inside the black hole? Does it compress until its the size of an atom?
Thanks 😄

I am an armchair physicist. I propose that the gravity field has some finite minimum value... like photons. If you get far enough away from a star, its light ceases to be a stream of photons and becomes a blipping periodic impulse... like the sound of a Geiger counter. I reckon the smaller more structured elements of the universe; planets, solar systems, galaxies form where the gravity field is smooth and streamy. These same organised structures cant form when it is spread out so thin that it becomes blippy and probabilistic. Probably only hefty gravity waves from combining black holes can cross the chilly void between filaments without getting too spread out. Like butter over the quantum toast.
