Over the course of B.C.'s heat dome, 719 people died suddenly — triple the number of deaths that would normally occur in the province during the one-week period.

The B.C. Liberals are now calling for an independent review of the province's response to the heat wave, writing in a statement "the coroner has been clear that the public didn't understand the serious risk the heat wave posed."

I had a mini panic attack when I heard of the impending heat wave. I knew it was going to be bad when they said it was going to be 36 by the water here downtown

Either you want the government to stick their nose in your business or you don't. Can't have it both ways

I can probably already tell you what happened... and it has absolutely nothing to do with having fair warning or not. I'm not sure how many people are aware, but BC has a MASSIVE affordable housing, shortage issue.. I myself even with my small family, have to live in a RV Travel trailer that you would normally take camping (no A/C currently) because tourism reign supreme out here & air BnB has eaten up all the long term housing.. That being said, when you have that many people from your provincial population that are actually living in vans, or trailers etc because of a housing crisis do you really think that 'staying indoors' is going to do diddly squat???
