Aha, found a fellow nerd who kept their own personal chart, Francis! I did so from about the middle of July 1978 onwards. I'd typically throw it together on a Tuesday evening after school or college, otherwise the next opportunity after that, as here in the UK the new official Top 40 used to be unveiled on Radio 1 on a Tuesday, first on a lunchtime show. For all those who missed that, there was then a 6 to 7 o'clock rundown in the early evening plus another one on the Wednesday breakfast show. The Top 30 was shown at the start of Top of the Pops on Thursday evenings, and by late 1980 that became the presenter(s) running through the Top 40 in the middle of the programme. The Top 20, and then from the second half of November 1978 onwards the Top 40, was played in full on the Sunday late afternoon/early evening show on Radio 1 - cassette recorder at the ready! The entire Top 75 was on display in record shops and the music department of stores such as Boots, WH Smith, Woolworths and John Menzies; this came to them as a pullout inside Music Week magazine.
I based my own chart in equal measure on my own preferences and the official chart, so that it would keep current and not get clogged up with personal favourites never shifting from it; if a single fell out of the official Top 40 it was given a weighting which would increase every week to make sure it would slowly but surely slip out of my chart too. There were so many good records, anyway, that it was like a great river flowing, (nearly) always giving and bringing new things to enjoy. There were a few unlikely songs getting to number 1, though none that I don't like now. By about 1981 the middle-to-lower part of my chart had become largely a vehicle for chamioning new records that caught my ear in some way or other, anyway. It was always that way a bit; to name just a couple of examples, artists such as UB40 and Kirsty MacColl appeared on my chart before their first entry into the official one - in the latter's case by a full two years! You've got some good picks for your number 1s here, though I'm not as into all that SAW stuff circa about 1988-89 as you were!

Dear Francis, this is an amazing compilation. I think I know almost 95% of your #1 songs, not only the famous worldwide hits by well known artists, but all the Eurodiscos too. I loved Eurodiscos and SynthPop. Bring back such good memories of the golden decade of our adolescence. I will say you have excellent taste in music 😊❤

Many of my favorites are on this list and even if they're not favorites, these were soundtrack to my teens (and 11 and 12) and I'm here for it!

Thank you most sincerely, Francis for including 'The Living Years' (best song of the 1980s). For this, I can even forgive you for including 'Ghostbusters' and 'Ride On Time'!

Some great choices. Well done. Although, missing 'I know him so well' by Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson in 1985 😉

Great to see your personal charts. I started my own personal charts in 1989 but have now backdated to earlier times. I would love to have mine posted here in a similar way. Would be willing to pay you to produce a compilation of them. Thanks.

Can anyone in the comments recommend similar music channels? I love this channel and discover so much good music through it that I would love to find others, especially non-American and genre complications.

Je suis entièrement d'accord, toutes les chansons. Cependant, je m'attendais à Pour le Plaisir - Herbert Léonard, mais c'était en 1981😀| Salutations de la Sarre ! 👍

Got to say thank you for giving a personal touch by showing your own charts #1s 👍 Many excellent choices grabbing the gold medals. 1982 isn't the best year musically of the 80s in my eyes (still an 8 out of 10 overall which is good), but you've got some crackers as your gold medal winners - one of my favourite all time songs of 'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me'. Glad I'm not alone loving 'Rock The Boat' by Forrest. His interpretation is better than the original. Points for liking Boris Gardiner. Mandy Smith really is underrated and happy with the Madge love. 'Sign Your Name' is my favourite along with 'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me' and 'The Living Years' = all joint first. 'Desenchantee' isn't far behind. A true French classic and a great artist with Mylene Farmer.

I don't think you have many questionable choices at all. In fact you've got good taste. You're on fire for my birth year (1984). You've got one of the first Maltese acts to make the UK Chart with a member of Galaxy (Dee Galdes) in here, and good to see some unknown gems get some love here. The Sonia song 'Listen To Your Heart ' my sister got third in karaoke aged 9 in a school talent show with that song lol. Keep up the good work Francis. I'm a huge supporter of the channel. You've made me rediscover some gems and new songs.
