This week we welcome special guest Andy from Andy Spoons.

Andy demonstrates how to carve a spoon from start to finish from a log of Cherry.
Starting with some axe work and moving on to the more intricate details with carving knives.

A Green woodworker and spoon carver based in the Blue Mountains, Andy uses traditional hand tools to craft beautiful, functional kitchenware from green wood.

All of the material used is locally sourced in the Blue Mountains, Australia.

If there’s one thing I learned from prison its that if you can only have one piece of cutlery a spoon is the best choice.

Any tips on preventing splitting after working green wood?

You know Andy, part of me hates that CG wall behind you. BUT I also think it makes a great background to show off a detail on the spoon. But not that colour - something that contrasts with the spoon - blue or pink. It actually makes for a very clear uncluttered picture...

What do you call the leather protective piece you use when bracing the spoon against your chest to carve?

Interesting but the ridiculous sappy background music ruins it
