This online lesson covers ways in which William governed England, increasing the power of the king. It considers major legal developments, including the Forest Laws and the way the William introduced some new laws, but kept far more tried and tested Saxon laws. The lesson is intended to last from 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours, depending of the depth of the work undertaken.

This lesson is designed to compliment the Edexcel GCSE History specification Anglo Saxon and Norman England c.1060-1087, but it should be useful to anyone studying this topic.

The Saxons had already established kingship long before William Conqueror which William used for his purposes in England.
