I been driving for 12 years as an owner op from day 1 pulling a flatbed with 0 experience and learned everything by my self on the road. Dont use wd40 for them ratchets but get grease spray. Also pulling a flatbed requires your driving to change and become way more of a defensive driver because you can kill yourself and others easily with some loads. Be safe and always cautious! I love my flatbed and i could never pull anything else! I am 36 now and will continue flatbedding till i retire! My home base is stlouis!

I hauled mostly heavy equipment around the country out of Texas, often high and wide loads, in the '70's during the summers to pay for college. First time I crossed the Mason-Dixon line I noticed fairly quickly that bridge height signs were few and far between. I was like WTF! on the radio to another of our trucks... and he said, just try to stay in the center lane, kid!
Stopped to check the chains after going down an overgrown two lane in backwoods Louisiana... and found a snake had fallen out of tree onto the trailer. Fun times.
Happy trails, young lady!

Flatbed is Definitely the way to go, I run local in a 200 mile radius and still bring in 5k to 6k a week and home every night
I being thinking about make some vids to help anyone who wants to get started like easy skateboard loads, or quick,
but haven’t had the time,

Glad you guys are experiencing more than just van/reefers. I've been on that flatbed/drop deck life for almost 10 years. Started with a stainless reefer for a small company hauling groceries across a rural part of Arizona.

NOW LOOK AT THE ROOM YOU HAVE ON THE BACK OF YOUR TRAILOR, YOU CAN PUT A PARTIAL LOAD ON THE BACK. WHEN YOU FIND A COMPANY YOU MAY WANT TO LEASE ON TO, ASK THEM IF THEY ALLOW YOU TO PARTIAL YOUR TRAILOR, THATS WHERE YOU CAN MAKE BIG BUCKS. THE TRICK IS FINDING A GOOD DISPATCHER WHO WILL FIND PARTIALS FOR YOU TO LOAD. GIVE IT SOME TIME, YOU TWO WORK GREAT TOGETHER AND THATS ALWAYS A PLUS. IM GOING TO CALL OOIDA TODAY AND TRY AND FIND A GOOD COMPANY THAT RUNS GOOD FREIGHT.

Get a ladder to hook onto rub rails. Climbing up, jumping down will hurt you. (As you will do it not warmed up). A expanding ladder will also be nice at times.
A bit cheap having a cute, young, little dog to draw guys attention. And again 8:30

Great job on getting more experience. If you don't have air scales on the truck and trailer this would be a very high recommendation!!! Make your life alot easier!! Run a regional fleet of stepdeck, flatbed on west coast. Safe travels!!!!

Good vid but always load forks facing the rear especially on heavy duty lift trucks. A sudden enough stop with that much weight could compromise the chain or binders or both. Dont want the forks coming through the rear of the cab.

You guys should look into intermodal. Lately I've had success running out of the ports. I saved up 30k in 5 weeks. That's after all expenses. Low miles. Almost no deadhead. I think Cali has some huge ports.

Those U bolts are suppose to face down with saddle block and spacers i believe, but whatever work works.

I see you're heading to the gym - I'd like to recommend something called plyometric exercises.

In the simplest of terms: Plyometrics are exercises that involve a jumping or explosive movement. For example, skipping, bounding, jumping rope, hopping, lunges, jump squats, and clap push-ups are all examples of plyometric exercises. You need that brief burst of maximum effort to lift heavy objects into place and to tighten binders.
