This is my favourite song from Mystic Messenger. So beautiful, soothing and still kinda sad... It suits him very well, in my opinion.

Warning: This contains spoilers from Jumin's route. If you haven't played it and don't want to get spoiled, don't read it. You have been warned.


To me, this theme actually holds the key to understanding every aspect of Jumin's character. At first glance, this theme is very simple yet sophisticated and refined, almost as if the theme itself is a bored Jumin looking down upon common folk. But if you listen more carefully, you'll see this theme is actually very complex in structure and carries out a melancholic, almost childlike wish to it. Jumin is actually insecure about opening up to people and showing his emotions because he's afraid of getting hurt again. The reason why he was so devastated when Elizabeth 3rd ran away and why he tried to keep MC all to himself is not because he always wants to get what he wants like a spoiled rich kid, but because he's afraid of getting abandoned once again. Remember, his mother left him and his father because of his father's womanizing. This is the reason why he's cold and distrustful around women (especially flirty women): Their presence alone reminds him why his mother left. He doesn't want to become his father in that aspect. He also doesn't want to get left behind by another person who's very important to him. His mother left without him. Rika left without him and he senses V is also about to leave without him soon. So, when Elizabeth 3rd also leaves, he kind of suffers from an emotional breakdown (albeit it's still concealed with "calmness") and he frantically holds onto MC, the only woman who hasn't left him yet. And despite the mixed reactions from RFA (I don't blame them and I agree with them, but I also understand where Jumin is coming from), MC doesn't leave his side because she knows he needs her. So she stays with him for a couple of days, but still gently tells him that he needs to realize that he can't simply never let go of people and Jumin finally feels relaxed and safe thanks to MC's efforts. So, where am I getting with this? The theme song is actually Jumin's longing for a person who would love him, tend the hole left in his heart and never abandon him. The song begins calm and builds itself up in an orderly manner for the first two halves (Jumin is calm because he conceals himself), but near the end the piano solo enters and it's immediately cut (Jumin's insecurities and pain gets the best of him and he starts to speak with his heart, but he immediately shuts himself up to avoid getting hurt), then the mood shifts into calm again and the song ends (Jumin acts as if nothing is wrong on the outside and goes on with his life).

I hope I was able to express myself the way I wanted to do. What are your thoughts?
