My father owned one of those R2 Avantis and it was a beast in its day. Those solid lifters were just what the doctor ordered, in combination w/ the Paxton S/C. Pop did some carb tuning and some minor port work on the heads and that Studi would turn 12 second quarters all day long. His best ET was 11:89 @ 7K RPMs against a '67 Barracuda w/ a solid lifter 273 . . . w/ me in the passenger seat. Watching Pop slam the gears was a treat, as well as a great lesson on power shifting - never let your foot off the GO pedal. My mother was absolutely beside herself as we headed off to join the queue; I had never been happier. What a ride! Would love to find one of those Paxton S/Cs for my Corvair build. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Great race! Love that Studebaker Avanti. In my opinion, the Avanti was the coolest looking car from 1963, and with that Supercharged 289, a winner.

Skylark was impressive, with stockish 350 running high 13's...very respectable, and she is a pillar car to boot...I like it allot. Buick 350 is a very peppy engine and lots of torque. Goes to show any vintage A body with a strong V8 and proper gears IS a musclecar. Love Olds, Buick, Pontiac....BOP rules.

Wow, Excellent. My ex father in law worked for Studebaker and built Avantis. He loved those cars. Really cool to see this one.

Oh man, the music that Avanti made, and those looks! The Buick really showed some great times. Both drivers handled themselves well, great racing. I write it every time - thank you for these! 🌮 🌮

To put things into perspective. 1962 Chevy Impala SS 409-409hp @ 6, 000rpm. 420lb-ft @ 4, 000rpm. 3, 750lbs. cost $3, 858.00
1963 Ford Galaxy 500 427-425hp @ 6, 000rpm. 480lb-ft. @ 3, 700rpm. 3, 775lbs. cost $3, 578.00 With that said, I've always enjoyed spotting an Avanti at car shows. It's definitely a unique car. Thanks for the video!

Love see these Avanti's. I see one at a local car show every once in a while, and I ask the guy questions based on the little tidbits I learn off C&Z!

Love me some Skylarks. That sound...righteous sound out of the Buick. Stude was formidable!

Sorry error here. The R2 was 9:1 comp ratio, LOWER than the R1, which boasted a comp ratio of
10.5:1

Alice Cooper is a very proud owner of a 63 and he had Danny at Counting Cars go through it.

G'day from Australia....

Skylark almost seems like a sleeper with its reasonably muted 350.

The Studi's soundtrack at full noise

Cool content mate, keep it coming.

What's really intriguing however is the 1964 R3 super Lark. It runs 12s at 114 mph at pure stocks. That completely annihilates the buick which has a 20 year newer engine and more cubes to boot. Super Lark R3 5.5 sec 0-60, 12.6-9 at114+ and tops at 150+ MPH. THAT'S
REALLY IMPRESSIVE.

Had no idea that Buicks 350 that year could burn up the quarter like that.!

I had a 71 Buick Skylark and it ran close to these times, not bad for a 350 and I'm sure a lower compression ratio than the 70.

My brother and I each had a 1964 Skylark with 2:73 posi gears. I dropped a stock 1970 Buick 350 and a turbo 350 in mine. He dropped a stock 1971 Buick 455 and turbo 350 in his. Each was rated from the factory at 315 hp. It was a dead heat every time we drag raced them.

Odd outcome from BOTH these beauty's. Very inconsistent times but each having 1 good run. Really dig the Pure stock drags, GREAT idea!
