Starting small
It was a decade before Supreme opened a second location, in Los Angeles, and today the brand has two stores in New York City, six in Japan and outposts in Paris and London, while a location in San Francisco opened in 2019.
Along the way, Supreme’s fashion world street cred has been bolstered by high-profile collaborations with the likes of luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton as well as iconic global brands like Nike, Vans and Levi’s.And whether Supreme is releasing a new line of its own apparel and accessories, or if Jebbia’s company is dropping new items from its latest big-name collaboration, it’s become commonplace for Supreme fans — dubbed “Supreme-heads” — to line up for hours on end outside a store for product release events that sometimes sell out in a matter of minutes. Supreme shoppers at these events will pay anywhere from $30 to $100 for a shirt or a hat, and from $150 to over $450 for a jacket.
Things That Never Lead Supreme To Go After Paid Advertising
Supreme has grown on to become the most massive phenomenon of the clothing brand. Apart from just clothing, Supreme sold stuff like bricks, nunchucks which even went crazy. Supreme customers were ready to buy anything that Supreme launched. Either they use it or not. Supreme items were considered as a valuable piece of art by many. Let’s talk about the things, that made Supreme superior to many
Scarcity That Never Stops
If you know anything about Supreme, then it’s all about their scarcity launches. Supreme is renowned for launching its product in lesser quantities and building the hype for the consumers to get their hands on Supreme.
This scarcity tactic seemed to work for Supreme over the decades. But to our surprise, the Supreme scarcity model wasn’t a strategic move. Jame Jebbia shared on many occasions, that in the initial days of business they didn’t want to produce in large quantities and run out of money to sustain the business.
Slowly, Supreme launched it’s products one at a time in lesser quantities. Over a period of time, the hype was built around each Supreme product launch. Thus frequently releasing it’s unique and outstanding design pieces had made people go mad for its launches. On multiple occasions, Supreme product launches were worthy enough to be mentioned in press releases. The whole scarcity concept for its products made supreme launches into a mini-exponential event.
Hype Beasts:
Hype beasts are referred to as the people who have the need of collecting branded accessories for the sole purpose of impressing others. For Supreme, their hype beasts meant everything.
Hype beasts could be the main reason why Supreme never got into paid advertisements. These hype beasts made a community of themselves. They would go to any extent to get their hands on new Supreme products.
Hype beasts who were collecting Supreme items built a culture around them. Having a new Supreme product in their collection was like a souvenir for them. Check Joe Migraine, he has been a Supreme collector for over eight years now. Joe alone owns $100K worth of Supreme items.
