The WORST Tourist Trap in India

This restaurant and souvenir shop on India's famous Golden Triangle route is the worst tourist trap I've ever come across! The souvenirs are massively marked up, their cruddy restaurant charges 5-star prices, and they're busy breaking the law by rubbing out the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) on their snacks too.

This video will also help you learn the basic prices for souvenirs in India. Always buy them from a market rather than greedy stores like these. Even your hotel's souvenir store will be a better option.

Avoid Motel Gangaur (मोटल गणगौर) on NH11 Agra-Jaipur road at all costs!

Filmed just before lockdown.

I'll go there and use their toilet for sure, when I visit Jaipur next time.

He is correct. Touring India 101: Avoid making purchases at on route motels where the bus stops; instead, utilize the restrooms and keep some snacks handy or look for some alternate hotel. Additionally, avoid shopping at stores recommended by tour guides. This rule goes even for Indians touring India.

I have travelled to India a few times. When i hear the saying, "You're my first sale of the day, special price for you" i cant help myself. I just walk out.

I remember telling my driver that every cent I spent in a tourist trap store was less tip for him. The experience changed quickly 😂

I always love when they get the magic calculator out as if just by typing a number it feels as if they are making an effort to give you a deal lmao

"Only for you" has to be the favorite phrase of shady sellers.

Travelling tip :- don’t buy anything from the places where tourist buses halt for food break.

SHORT STORY TIME!!!!
I'm from kashmir and even we get treated the same as foreigners when we travel to different places in india.
Honestly Delhi and Rajasthan is a bit too much for us "foreigners" Lol (no hate to local people though)
Okay so I too went to a delhi shop and the shopkeeper, he thought of me as a foreigner and spoke to me in English.
I wanted to buy a skirt and he said to his partener in hindi that "bhav doguna karde konsa fark padhega" which means double the original price of the skirt doesn't matter to them.
I got SHOCKED 💀💀💀 For a sec I was like bro what???
but in the end of the bargaining I TOLD HIM BHAI SAB MEREKO URDU AATI HAI 💀💀
He laughed (I don't know what was funny tho)
But yes I didn't buy anything from that shop haha

9:34 I like how they probably didn't know what he was talking about but still shared the disappointed sentiment.

Karl - you and your wife should start an Indian tour company that gives foreigners a safe, well done, and authentic Indian experience.

It's funny how they expect people to pay 3 times the amount and still have the nerve to call it a special discount 😂😂

It’s truly amazing when you play the ‘naive tourist’ in India & other places…..the look on the vendors faces when you fly back at them in their own language & call them out over their disgusting practises. It’s happened to me in India & Indonesia BUT the shock I caused when berating them in their dialect was priceless…. Suddenly they couldn’t help me enough then as to previously fobbing me off as a foreign person to rip off. I was begged not to report them, so I didn’t but wow did I learn a lesson 🙏🏻

I'm still pissed off about getting scammed when I was 11 in Chinatown, NY. The Girl Scouts went on a trip to NYC and the first store had chopsticks for $10, the next one had the same chopsticks for $3, the next store $1. I was only 11 but that lesson has stuck with me for 50 years.

As an Indian, I am embarrassed that the citizens of my country do this to foreigners.

The salesman was saying 'magnetic' in such a way that magnet is more expensive than gold😹😹

Same things happens when you travel interstate. The bus drivers will have some commission from hotel where they stop for breaks - Could be for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, etc - Bloody Ripoff! Its common for both local & International tourist. If you want to avoid expensive stuff, do window shopping and restuarant hopping wherever possible, a bit of hustle but you will save a alot.
