Introductory Statistics: Chapter 1--The Nature of Statistics (1.1-1.3) | Math with Professor V

First video lecture for Introductory Statistics. Chapter 1 discusses the Nature of Statistics. In 1.1 we cover the branches of statistics, descriptive versus inferential statistics, what a population is vs. a sample, and examples identifying the two main branches of statistics. The difference between an observational study vs a designed experiment, and examples of each. In 1.2 we look at a Simple Random Sample, how to collect a simple random sample. 1.3 covers other sampling designs, including systematic random sampling, cluster sampling, and stratified sampling. Discussion of various types of bias that can occur in studies, including sampling bias, voluntary response bias, social acceptability bias, and nonresponse bias.
