Why do you whip a 6010?

I find that running 5 amps cooler...bumping the side walls (rather than whipping), I am able to break down the landings better than whipping. Course, pointing the rod in the correct direction should the keyhole get too big/small allows for a excellent sound & ductile root.

I seem to have missed the statement that says exactly why you whip 6010. Lots of good info about the rod, but no direct statement on why to whip

6011s make a cap so slick, youll half to tack the cap so it dont slide off😂😂😂

Excessive spatter = amperage too high.
Try turning down on the fill pass, you’ll also have more control with lower amperage.. That fill pass looks erratic.

But back to the question there’s lots of people that simply drag their roots, no whip.
Whipping is mainly aesthetics, it also helps stack metal for more deposition. Lastly it’s like a metronome to create a consistent rate of travel. But there is no mandatory reason for whipping.

I like to rub Vaseline on any pipe I’m welding, makes it so much easier to scrape off slag / BBs with a 4 in 1

My miller can't run 6010 however i never tried it says it will only run 6011 6013 7018
I have a miller multimatic 215

I absolutely hated running 6010 when I first started. Because it was so messy.

If you're not extending the arc length it's not a whip and pause... all you're doing by jerking out of the puddle like that is laying hot weld on cold steel... this is more of a backfill technique used for buildup so you don't blow through thin metal or if you're keyhole gets away from you... a whip and pause is specifically for the complete opposite problem when it's too cold and you lose the keyhole... you whip slightly off the base material to increase your ohms and allow the base material to heat up allowing you to reclaim your keyhole
