It's apparently been noted that this game was in development since 2012. What does this mean? Was this what Undertale was going to be? Was Undertale just a tech demo to the game Toby really wanted to make? Who knows....this game is lit lol.

I just finished this game actually, and seeing all of the people in chat saying "Is it a prequel?" at first made me say "No, it's not how the hell would you think that", but then thought again, oh yeah it might be, but then realized it's not.

So, from what i'm gathering so far, this game is a sequel to Undertale in the same sort of way that Majora's Mask is a sequel to Ocarina Of Time.
Same characters (at least on the surface), but in a different reality.
Maybe in this world the Monsters were never sealed underground, and you're playing as this world's version of Chara, which would explain why your brother is Asriel. I don't know though-
I haven't finished it myself yet-
I'm only a little farther ahead than these guys are, so things might be explained more clearly later on.
And PLEASE don't spoil it for me-

I think you're right that it's an alternate dimension (or timeline) or something of that nature. If it's a prequel...there are lots of things that don't make sense. If it's a straight up sequel...again, lots of things that don't make sense. That said, maybe they will once we see more of what Delta Rune is.

I'm curious how this game will be considering you guys didn't get the true ending of the first game.

Because you guys said you love undertale and the writing, i highly suggest you go back and complete a true pacifist run! It's easier than you think and has a lot more new content than you realize. I'm not one who enjoys doing new game + or anything like that but for Undertale it's WELL worth it! Please consider it.

It's the game, but only Chapter 1.
