An orange flame means it's an incomplete burn. Basically every flammable gas will burn blue if you have the right air mixture for that gas. Even wood and coal can get a blue flame, although that's much harder to do. However your household stove isn't meant to run anything but the gas it was designed for, so this stove is simply oxygen starved. It could be a stove problem, but yes, its probably from a fuel switch.

The real issue is that an incomplete burn produces much more carbon monoxide than a clean burn does, so these people are in real danger.
