Imo it’d be better to have in the summer break, I understand that mechanics want a break, but what use is such a race if all seats are already taken for next year? If you do it in the summer break, drivers can be considered in silly season. Ofc has to be figured out, and a post season race is better than nothing, but imo mid season would be better

My question: How would the mechanics feel about this? They have families to tend to. What about the crowd to see it live?
It would be easier for the championship drivers, but everyone else would just have more work to do. That being said, it's an excellent idea.

It's a shame F2 is so untrustworthy, to make us have this type of event to properly evaluate young drivers. You know something is terribly wrong with feeder series, when stuff like this has to happen

Only if it's not a sprint, that format is so short that it's barely longer than an F3 race and humbled by an F2 sprint

It will make for amazing entertainment and it’ll probably give some drivers opportunities they wouldn’t have gotten before, but I don’t like the idea of a significant proportion of the F2 grid dealing with the pressure that their only chances to progress depend on performing in this one race when one race is not a fair means of assessing driver ability, especially in unfamiliar machinery

I still would like a relevant race... as they have mandatory FP sessions, let's have two mandatory young drivers sprint races. Teams pick what race they put the young drivers and you automatically make sprint races different.

Red Bull - Hadjar
Ferrari - Schwartzman
Mercedes - Antonelli
Aston Martin - Drugovich/Crawford
Alpine - Doohan
Haas - Bearman
RB - Lindblad/Marti
Williams - Luke Browning
Sauber - Pourchaire

End of the season is the only time they could do it. For those that think they should do it earlier in the season, they can’t with limited power units. No team is going to want to risk the wear and tear it puts on the components. A non championship race could end up costing them points later on in the season. There’s also a matter of the cost of crash damage could eat into their dev budget for the championship.

My idea is do that instead of sprints but make it count only for constructors.
You could do 4 sprints/races with one Rookie and one full time driver and 2 sprints/races with only rookies.
I would say the 4 sprints are split between 2 rookies and each roomie would have to race each teammate once.
That would ensure both rookies get 4 sprints/races
And you only need one extra training session for the rookies on Friday, which should easily work as practices nowadays are only one hour anyways and we also fit F2 and F3 into the program

Good idea but a single race wouldn't be an indication of much since there would always be room for flukes
