' Vibrato ' comes from the Italian verb 'vibrare' which in English can be translated as to vibrate (vibration) or to throb.
It is also and above all used with bowed instruments, for example the violin. In stringed instruments, vibrato is a must. A violin without vibrato is jokingly called 'sawing wood'.
But it is also used with wind or plucked instruments and with the voice in opera (is a must) or pop music.

Fun fact: I've been trying to learn to sing vibrato not knowing that i was singing it all along even my choir director told me i always sing with vibrato which i didn't know
