I had a cat who'd make noises like that when given a treat - usually a bite of red meat or seafood. He'd spend more time growling at the girls than he did eating it. The girls, however, weren't interested, and I swear, if cats could roll their eyes, they would have. Still, the instinct to keep his treat to himself prevailed, and he kept growling.

When you begin tu o speak to him, his roaring changed and tournés in an old saucepan !
I had problèmes whith my who is 3 kg and roared like a German Shepherd !
He made a big mess in the kitchen, but you stats rather quite in front of this !

Don't ever let it growl at you like this, it's disrespect and you don't want to have this kind of relationship. It's not funny. Always walk away and come back at another time, try again and give it something nice until it accepts you. Can take years, but I've tamed quite a few wild animals like this.
