I think the generalized question of "can you make a cat tutorial" is more so "can you make a tutorial showing how to convert correct anatomy into an art style that's easy to replicate"? With animation I know most animators aren't drawing every muscle on the cat body but certain key shapes can make animals read as they are without overdetailing everything!

This is still a super helpful video!! I've been dying to see a character sheet breakdown for a long time! <33

Your channel really lives up to the “stay inspired!” Quote! :)

Why'd you shorten the drawing a blank intro? Sorry if people have already asked

Since this talks a lot about keeping the purpose of the character sheet in mind, I'll add that Peach's unposed turnaround was PERFECT for sculpting! It let me translate her proportions into 3D nice and easily. A posed turnaround like Pool's would have required me to make more inferences about things like how far forward his hair reaches in a neutral side view, if his cheek tufts angle forward or backward at all, and the effect of perspective on the length of his neck in your drawings. Those little decisions add up and don't always match the designer's vision

It's him! The boi!!!!
I've been thinking a lot about character sheets lately too, and this was really reassuring. I have to remember that I'm not doing ref sheets for animation and I don't NEED to have tons of details to make good character sheets that express what I want them to.

Thank you for making this! It's a very helpful guide, and gave good tips and advice on how you can make character reference sheets.

I always find myself coming back to your series and feeling inspired. Character sheets are a wonderful way to plan out your story’s characters and simplified redesigns for convenience.

This is incredibly helpful! I often do simpler character sheets since they're mostly for myself it's really nice seeing a guide for the more complex ones.

Is it just me or did Tennelle upload after I got a smoothie, Reese’s cup and a doctor pepper? Now this is a perfect day.

Will you be posting your character sheets somewhere? I know that I would love to see them all. Not to mention it'll be nice to be able to see some of the details you spoke of.

Could you possibly make a tutorial on how to draw complicated coat patterns? (Ie, Tortoiseshell, Merlot, Brindling...)

Now that I’ve gotten into 3D modeling that’s helped me do turnarounds a lot better. Once I have a 3D model I can just glance at that to somewhat see how a character should look from different angles

you have no idea how helpful this is-
i’m currently working on new references for all of my characters, yes all of them, and i just couldn’t get the right format. and, as a commission taker, big color pallets are helpful!

I know I'm late, but holy heck this is informative!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I'm working on designs for a story I want to do myself, inspired by warriors and your story Clouded Moon. I am changing it of course, lol. But I'm taking inspiration from both to create my own storylines. If that makes sense.

This is an extremely useful video because I was clueless on how to handle character sheets in the past. I didn't exactly realise how difficult it would be to make one until I tried earlier having this video on repeat to listen to in the background. But, as you said, it's fun and satisfying to see the work pay off! ^w^

I really enjoy this series, and I am so happy this was made into a drawing a blank. I remember you saying in the video where you spoke about unused concepts for the series that you were going to do one on how to host a MAP. The first part would have been about character sheets and designs. I was like "I would love to see that! Knowing what details topic in a ref sheet would be very helpful. But I understand why it got cut." And this morning I woke up to this being in my notifications!

I know this is long, but.. if you took the time to read this Tennelle, thank you for inspiring people with all you do and giving useful tips and advice :3
