Imagine the chilliest, most relaxed, resource management game with a good message - that's Terra Nil.

Terra Nil is a game about transforming a barren, lifeless landscape into a thriving, vibrant ecosystem. Turn dead soil into fertile grassland, clean polluted oceans, plant sprawling forests, and create the ideal habitat for animals to call home. Then recycle your buildings and leave no trace that you were there. Reclaim the wasteland.

The concept of trying to revitalize and bring everything back to "zero" human interaction is such a nice change of pace. A lot of games, whether intentionally or not, really focus on that like "expansionism" mindset so this is really refreshing.

This game is such a delight. It's Wholesome and idealistic. I really get the feeling that this isn't just a "Make environment and look at pretty things." as it is about appreciating what we already have.

The concept reminded me somewhat about one of my absolute favorite city builders: "Surviving Mars" - here with the "Green Planet" DLC in particular.
Vastly different games in execution, but the DLC for "Surviving Mars" actually scratches a slightly similar itch, in that it has you terraforming Mars into what amounts to a second earth - just with less pollution.

This is a great game, despite how short it is. I can't remember if Jesse was the one who said it, but I remember watching a video essay a while back that discussed this very issue: "we have so many city builders, algorithm-makers, civilization-sustaining strategy sims. We have literal years of content on the practice of colonizing a pristine ecosystem, but whether you learn to balance nature and technological utopia in Cities: Skylines or you drain the planet of its every last resource in Frostpunk, there's not a single game that begs the question: 'what would it look like for nature to fully reclaim this hungry beast called human creation?'" While this game isn't a perfect solution--by its nature, it's all about humans using their technology to restore the land instead of it revitalizing on its own--I can't help but echo Jesse' s sentiments that this is a hopeful game. Maybe one day we'll get to see a scenario where mother nature can reverse what we've done to it. Whether it's in a video game or side-by-side with humanity or witnessed by the dregs of some long-since civilization, I look forward to the day when the planet can heal the scars we've inflicted upon it.

I always feel some kind of comfort when I watch your videos.
Thank you so much for the hundreds of hours of fun over the years :))

I remember this game getting a demo a while back and picking it up, and I really enjoyed it but unfortunately kinda forgot about it, so i'm glad to see that it's REALLY become an amazing game

Game length is definitly one of this games shortcomings, i cleared all objectives in each biome on the first try. The alternative maps did give me alot more challange though, some taking several restarts to get to the next phase of reclamation.
But the game, as Jesse said several times, is very chill, which lets you think through each step and appriciating the nature that you help get back once you succeed. Def recommend it!

I feel like calling this a city builder is false marketing, because it absolutely isn't. Just like Jessie mentions, its a puzzle game. Nothing more, nothing less. That doesn't make it a bad game, just not what they claim it is.

If they wanted a city builder, they could have gone for Solar Punk where you make a civilization that lives in harmony with nature, the same idea but with the actual city builder aspect.

I'm so happy that Terra Nil is finally out. I downloaded the demo every single time we had a Steam Fest, and played it about a dozen times. Great game

When I saw the demo on steam almost a year ago, I played it, and immediately fell in love.
From bleak wastes to bustling wilds, Terra Nil heals the landscape and soothes the soul.

Let's get Jesse to 1 million already.

I don't normally buy games at full price, but when you said that the devs were donating a cut of the game sales to charity, I went and bought at full price. Both to support the devs for making such a chill game, but also to make the charity cut larger. This kind of "make a great game, but also help a good cause" is worth the extra cost. Then I went and played almost 3 hours late at night when I need to be up early. Its just such a cool game.

2:36 we all know that Jesse really wants an oceanic biome that lets you build a home for sharks 😂

It's an amazing game! I played the demo for nearly 10 hours on repeat. So exited to get into the full game!

Jesse Cox always had a 'I like this guy but I don't care for his individual content' spot in my life. But here we are all these years later and of his contemporaries (save for TB) he is the only person in his circle whose videos I watch regularly.

I tried to resist the call of the Cox but after a long hard fight, I had to tap out and dig in.

I really like the idea of there being a first person game like this, of restoring a planet that was devastated. This one looks great, but a first person one where you can walk around the environments would be my kind of speed.

A strong contender for my game of the year so far. Jesse hit the nail on the head, the only problem with Terra Nil is that there's not enough of it. If the devs _(Really? The Broforce guys?)_ ever decide to produce some DLC for this I'll happily gobble it up.
