Arterial line insertion #shorts

Arterial line insertion, often used in critical care settings, involves placing a catheter into an artery to allow continuous blood pressure monitoring, frequent blood sampling, or other specific measurements.
Locate the artery by palpating for the pulse. If using ultrasound, visualize the artery and mark the insertion site.
Administer a local anesthetic (like lidocaine) to numb the insertion site.

Insert the needle at a shallow angle (30-45 degrees) towards the artery until you feel a "pop" or see a flashback of blood in the needle hub.
If using the Seldinger technique, guide a wire through the needle into the artery, then slide the catheter over the wire.
Securely attach the catheter to the pressure transducer and flush system, ensuring a continuous saline flush to prevent clotting.
