Rudy Rodsphon: An equivariant index theorem for hypoelliptic operators

We give an equivariant index theorem in the framework of Heisenberg calculus for foliations, using zeta functions and excision in cyclic cohomology. In particular, this approach leads to a new proof of the trans- verse index theorem of Connes and Moscovici, in which we obtain directly a characteristic class formula for the index.
