Traded a smartphone for a Nokia, an MP3 player, and a Garmin GPS.

Got to say after so much of your videos watched... Just switched to linux about 2 weeks ago and it was pretty rough at the start but now every thing i do on my computer feels right, using open-source, privacy concerns and so on... And i watched a ton of youtube channels to help getting there and i wanted to say that your channel is my favorite of all ! Thx a lot !!
It really feels good to learn all of this.

Perhaps a better answer to 'I have nothing to hide', would be - 'Oh? Do you live in a glass house? Do you have curtains? Any locks on your doors? How would you feel about all your finances, medical records/web searches, and your love life being known to a limitless number of snoopers? Would your insecure smartphone habits put you at risk there? Do you feel so sure that you have nothing to hide now?

Isn't there a app to just allow your phone to connect to wifi if it has a password, seems there would be???

Check out the Yalp store (on F-Droid). It lets you install any free Google play app without making a Google account. The only problem is you can't download paid apps

The yalp store is opensource but the app downloads from google play store then gives you the apk

App for directions in the car that isn’t privacy invasive? Seems hard to find. Do you happen to use a good one or know of one that is less privacy invasive?

I'm interested into installing LineageOS but I'm so afraid to brick my phone. I'm not rich so if it fails, I'll be left with no phone.

Gday

Ive given up on smart phones

Increasing amount of smart phones:-
Lock you into Google or Apple ecosystem

Don't have NFC
Don't have 3.5 headphone port
Don't have MicroSD port
Don't have easy to remove back to access battery+sim
cant replace battery
cant remove back without almost melting it
Lasts under 1 day on battery

UTTER CRAP UI
Small tiny buttons to dial
Cant turn off auto "correct" text

You "need" to make an account with google to use the phone

Is it a bloody PHONE or a laptop with no keyboard and touch screen ?

6) Dust your old dumbphone and use it. Only your cell service company watches what you're doing.
I tried this, it works for me. Actually I was surprised to find out how little I actually needed a smartphone.

Without using any gapps (specifically Google play services) a lots of app won't work, as well as Google's push notification. So a lot of functionality out of Android is already lost.

I installed Orbot, so I just keep it running in the background?

Would never put my sim in a smart phone. Old school Nokia is still suiting me just fine, external SD card and MP3 player for podcasts and albums and I'm set.
