A great and haunting song...Elvis outdoes himself with this song! I met Elvis in a gas station in Memphis in July 1975...we talked for 35 minutes while his friends tried to get his Cadillac started. what a fantastic, funny, humble and friendly man. We talked about cars, movies, motorcycles and, of course, music. I will NEVER forget that 35 minutes.

Elvis was the binding voice that tied my mother and I together, I was taken away from her 1966 and placed in the childcare system, We both loved music. Elvis was her favorite, and i also! This is Elvis at his finest. He goes from a subtle almost breaking down whisper to full on belting it out from deep in his soul. The shift from the quiet refrain "with the rain in my shoes" to the thunderous "searching for just blows me away every time.

One night 50 years ago in 1970 I sat alone in my room doing my school work, and rocked back and forth to this tune on the radio. As I put my books down for just a moment, I listened to Elvis sing this emotional song about him yearning and looking for someone he loved. I knew nothing then of love, or loss or life at 15 years old, but somehow I felt I could relate to this beautiful song . Of course as the years rolled by I learned about love, loss, and life, and today at 65 years of age, I sit alone and can feel that familiar pain and loneliness that still haunts me.
