This might be off topic, but it's important! The world's biodiversity as well as [plastic] pollution is in serious trouble right now 🌳

BUT we ALL can start doing something about this! Let's make a difference in 2021 - You don't even have to leave your house to help make a change for the better. I would love for Elle to help promote little sustainability tips!
For beauty lovers, 💄 there is a lot we could try to do including:

> Go PLASTIC FREE: bamboo q-tips, solid shampoo, conditioner [liquid shampoo & conditioner can contain microplastic, not just the packaging!], body soap even face wash if you can do it 🧼 Easy changes and much better (and a lot of the times economically better!). Avoid microfiber towels/ polyester clothes too as they leach microplastics - linen or bamboo are much better!
>Turn the water off when not in use, that includes when lathering your body, face, hair etc! 🚰
Have a bucket in your shower to collect the water wasted when waiting for it to heat up and use it to flush your toilet or water your garden (note: if the water is completely clean it can be used for edible plants, if you are not sure, do not use on plants you intend to eat!)

> Recycle properly. You may need to find somewhere that accepts Terracycle ♻️
> To point three, lets start campaigning for our favourite beauty stores to host Terracycle boxes or have a circular system, refill stations for their 'home brand' products etc
It would be great for CVS, ULTA, Guardian, Priceline, Mecca Cosmetics, Sephora (or any of your local big beauty stores) to host Terracycle or their own in house recycle schemes. How cool would it be for Sephora to have refill stations in store for their products?
> Shop secondhand - some might not be comfortable when it comes to makeup (personally I have had great success!) but fashion, furniture, a lot of products you can find second hand for amazing deals. Fast fashion has a massive carbon and landfill footprint! 👚

Other actions you can do not beauty related:
> use ECOSIA (a search engine run by people who will plant a tree for every 45 searches you have on it 🌲) It doesn't even have to be your main browser. Just go one it once and a while and spam random searches
> turn lights (or anything not in use) OFF in rooms you're not in and unplug outlets/chargers💡
When I go to sleep or leave the house for work/day out, the only appliance left on is the fridge. Everything else is off: wifi, tv, microwave, kettle etc.

> MONEY MATTERS 💸Consider who you bank with, who your retirement fund is with. Do they invest in climate action? What about companies? From fashion/beauty to homewares, there are many B Corp certified and 1% for the Planet brands to choose from now and put money toward to support.

> Reuse first: shop second hand, find new life in products you have. Reduce second: do you really need that? Compost third: don't send foodwaste to landfill unless necessary (bones, meat offcuts, even then you can find ways to compost). Recycle last.
> Watch your food waste 🍽️ Compost what you can and try not to eat with your eyes and end up sending good food to landfill. Also just ONE completely meat free day a week can help!
> find bulk buy BYO container stores to shop at! This can cut food and plastic packaging waste by a lot. Sometimes you can even find beauty products there (hand sanitiser, face oil body or face soap etc)

We can do this together! We don't need a small amount of people doing these things perfectly, we need everyone doing them imperfectly :)
