Exploration of the Arctic is impossible without cooperation among countries, which have their own “northern” strategy, and the scientific track of cooperations is always prioritized. Preservation of the unique region and intelligent use of its resources and transportation potential can only be possible under strict guiadance of researchers. International cooperation in the Arctic is characterized by application of tools of science diplomacy based on achievements by scientists, and not political and administrative issues.

How does interaction among researchers from different countries of the Arctic region work? What are specific examples of joint projects? What does development of scientific diplomacy depend on and what countries are open for cooperation? Participants of the roundtable “Scientific Cooperation in the Arctic Region” will answer these and other questions.

00:00 Moderator: Ilya Vodolazov, Scientific Secretary of the Expert Council at the Project Office for Arctic Development
01:52 Alexander Sergunin, Professor, Faculty of International Relations, Saint Petersburg State University
28:55 Pavel Devyatkin, Research Associate and Leadership Group member, The Arctic Institute (USA)
53:27 Prof. Paul Arthur Berkman, Associated Fellow, United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), Faculty Associate; Program on Negotiation (PON) at Harvard Law School; President, Science Diplomacy Center (USA)
1:26:03 Which scientific areas are waiting for regression or development?
1:39:04 The US "excludes" Russia from the Arctic: does the new bill affect scientific cooperation?

The roundtable is a part of the series of expert roundtables “Arctic Sessions”. The project is organised with the Gorchakov Fund grant support by the Center for Support of International Journalism RBMC in partnership with the Project Office for Arctic Development (PORA).
