Sara, I can totally relate!! Of course we want the US to 3-peat, but I can appreciate the fact that women’s football/soccer has really advanced in that every team is bringing their A-game and giving higher ranked teams a run for their money (Philippines 🇵🇭included… wow)! Also, I like that it’s not just a small group that are high-ranking, but like you said, it’s maybe 6-8 teams that have a very solid chance at winning it all. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the group games have in store for us!

As a Chelsea fan I would like to see my girls succeed, however, Germany has my heart. Always had, since 1986 when they were West Germany. As a Trinidadian, my country made it once to the World Cup and that was in 2006, so most Trinidadians root for other international teams. In an interview, Popp mentioned that the phone gesture is for the fans at home and the ones who can't be with them. Initially, it was for her father.

In your last video, you mentioned Jamaica, and if we are surprised. I explained why I wasn't surprised and it's the same reason that I am surprised by Norway. As you said they are a team with top top players in their respective leagues with so much success for their club teams. And you would expect that they would do so much better. But they have struggled: in the Euros and now in the World Cup.

Even before the Philippines win over NZ, I thought they along with Haiti and Vietnam can get at least a point in the tournament given their strong performances in their first ever WC matches in spite of losing. That's exactly the difference between friendly or test matches and those at an important tournament.
For Germany the match against Zambia was a wake-up call at the right moment.
Germany is known, both in male and in female football, that it's a tournament team and that's exactly how it played yesterday.
Germany has this needed ruthlessness in front of the goal and they either score themselves or force own goals. As world ranked number 2, Germany definitely is a contender for the title, but will meet in the round of 16 either Brasil or France, both tough opponents.
Brasil played well, but were lacking (as also the USA or Spain) in converting chances.
Italy vs. Argentina was a top quality match with the slightly better team, Italy, narrowly wining it.
South Korea played a lot weaker than expected. The Philippines really surprised me today. Norway vs. Switzerland was the expected high level match, but now the pressure is definitely on Norway, which has to win its final match against the Philippines and hope for help by the Swiss team against New Zealand.

I don't think it was dominating games when the other teams are not in the same level. Watching Germany & Brazil was obvious teams they played where inferior at this point. Marta and Christine Sinclair are both in their 6th World Cups, and if they score, will both be the first to score in six World Cups (men or women). I hope they both do it as they are both incredible. I cheer for Canada as my country but if we can't win, I'm sure I'll have somebody I like on any teams in the final. It's the allegiance to Team Rainbow, I guess. If there were a Team Queer entry, I'd really have to figure out my loyalties - that would be tough! (If all the queer women were on the same team, playing only the straights remaining on each national team, they would be totally dominant. Here's a hypothetical for you, if the best lesbian/gay/trans women were on one team, playing the best cis straight women on another team, who would win?)
