The Romans broke down bronze bars in 12 uncias, which was equivalent to 31.1g.During the Middle Ages in France, in the city of Troyes, they measured metals in Troy ounces named after the city...1 inch = 25.4mm..1°F= -17°C😄Your French is amazing 😂

Fun fact, it has a peculiar interrelation with £sd since:

12 pennies is a shilling
20 shillings is a pound

But in troy weight system
20 pennyweights is an ounce
and 12 ounces is a pound

Additionally there are twice as many grains in a troy pound (480) as there are pennies in a pound (240)

The YouTube channel called: A history of Troy weight is so fascinating! A must watch if wanting to learn of how it came about the two different weight systems

Short, sweet, factual, to the point! Thank you sir! Why does everyone (other than yourself) on YouTube have to turn a simple concept into an overly complicated, highly opinionated, dissertation?

Do you know that railroad tracks distance apart is based on the distance between the wheels of the Roman Chariot. Knowing the correct weight of coins is one of the ways to detect counterfeits.

I brought this fake American Eagle 1 ounce coin from China, was a pretty good copy actually. Printing and dimensions were spot on and even passed a few basic tests, but those clowns made it closer to one regular ounce than a troy ounce, just keeping it for fun anyway.

The French have been known to make things confusing. 🤣

Metric is more logical than imperial but I have a feeling there would be a Troy gram just to confuse the logical brain.
