You don't even have to be a skater to appreciate the combination of sheer dedication and raw talent boiling down to what could be best described as one of the most complex forms of art. A form of art he almost created single-handedly, which is now a lifestyle for millions upon millions, all centered around his inventions. I mean seriously, very few people like this comes along at all.

Rodney is King, no argument there. In real-time, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone that does it as smoothly and clean as he does. Almost looks like magic, like he floats in mid-air while the board spins in ways it shouldn't be able to, and then latches back onto his feet. In slow-mo, it looks like he has real-life cheat codes enabled.

I just found this 2018 Rodney Mullen, and being a Rodney Mullen fan (my #1 sportsperson) I was worried I'd see signs of aging from Rodney.

I really wish we could get a proper part from Rodney Mullen again. The last couple times he's filmed something, it's just gone into a YouTube video edited by someone who wants to turn it into an art piece instead of a skate video. This one is better than the 360 video thing, but still. I'd give anything for a Round 4.

Rodney Mullen is so far beyond any other skater to this day. He has the same kind of tortured genius as Bach or Beethoven. If you watch the bones brigade documentary, his father was going to make him quit skating. So he spent his last summer doing everything he could and he literally found a way to ride every surface of the board and invented or innovated the modern vocabulary of skate tricks. He mastered skateboarding in a way no one else ever will. All modern street skating is just people doing what Rodney Mullen did, but shittier. Goat 🐐 💯
