Angry mother cat trying to protect her kittens

Angry black cat started hissing and spitting at me when she thought I was going to hurt her babies. While she was trying to protect her babies she accidentally scared another mother cat's kitten.

This is probably the only time a cat would attack you in the open if you picked up a kitten. Unlike dogs, it's very rare a cat would attack you.

Yeah mama cat is worried about her young. Dont forget you are an intimidating giant. Looked like she was afraid youll steel one of her babies. Are you sure the kitten isn't hers? The kitten just didn't understand that her aggressive behaviour was directed towards you and got scared.
