Peter Criss was a really competent drummer in his prime. He isn't Neil Peart for sure, but he did his job very well. Peter Criss haters like to think and claim that "Rocket Ride" (including its final, great drum break) wasn't recorded by him but Anton Fig, and that's a huge mistake and injustice. That song was recorded in 1977, and Anton Fig only entered the Kiss picture the following year, when Ace Frehley hired him to record the drum tracks for his solo album (just because Peter was very busy recording his own album). The only musicians present on "Rocket Ride" are Peter Criss on drums and Ace Frehley on everything else.

I think you may have cracked it man! Brilliant. I am so glad to see another drummer actually fascinated by some of the subtleties of PC's playing. Perhaps your next project should be to figure out the fill right at the end of 100, 000 years?!

That is so tasty…thanks. Wish I could have learned it, but I just didn’t have the chops.

Peter did that shit 1-handed. it's just an old school jazz lick. he does lots of that stuff. you can't over think these things, it's about feel and flow.

Cool. Thx. BTW - I've watched so many drum covers of Shock Me and NO ONE plays the cowbell parts after the first chorus and at the end.

Hey Gordon, I would love the sticking for this if you have the time. I just can't get it right from watching the video.

I was just going back to check the sticking you brilliantly worked out and realised that I (like a doughnut!) had mentioned the fill at the end of 100, 000 years when I meant Watching You! It is six-strokes split over the snare and rack tom, but the way it is played and phrased give it a great feel... ...and then there is the bass drum part!

If you're talking about the album version, I think it's Anton Fig.

I love Peter Criss and I'm not one to slag his drumming, but I'll eat my own leg off if that was him drumming on that track

It isn't a hard drum fill if you know how to listen for it. I played both Trumpet as well as drums in high school and we are taught to drown out everything but the part we are playing. It takes practice but being a drummer it helps when trying to learn a drum piece from a song. This is actually simple to hear but unless you know a bit about jazz it is kind of hard to play correctly. Actually nothing is correctly unless you are playing it with sheet music.

It really doesn't seem like something Peter would play, very out of character
