Trumpeter Swan Calls

In this recording, Trumpeter Swans take off from the water, at first pattering along the water before taking off and calling in flight. This species is the largest of North American waterfowl. Hunting reduced the Trumpeter Swan to near extinction by the early 20th century, but conservation measures have facilitated a comeback, and the species is relatively common today.

I had a chance to see these guys at Yellowstone, in 1996. On that same trip, during a snowstorm, we were driving on the lake ring road, and 4 wolf pups ran out in front of our car. We read in the paper the next day, that a tree had fallen at the Wolf Refuge, and 4 pups had escaped. We reported what we saw, but I can't say that I know they found them. They had trackers on, one would hope.
