I watched some of Khabibs training sessions with his father, it seems like the stuff they taught at the gym they own was catered specifically for MMA, for example I remember there was one moment where Khabibs father instructed the students were to keep their fingers flat against the cage whilist in some position against the cage, his reasoning being that it was illegal to grab the cage. I have tried 3 MMA gyms and I have to say that their classes usually are NOT MMA classes they are separate classes of usually Jiujitsu, Muay Thai and or some other form of grappling and striking discipline. The gym my friend goes to now offers a MMA class as well as the mentioned separate classes, the point is that there arent that many gyms/schools that are cater specifically for MMA rather they just have experts teaching separate martial arts and not enough of those experts can combine those arts and teach it. MMA is still young and probably needs time to develop infrastructure, but after watching Khabib and his father teaching true MMA to their students in those videos im convinced that they are true pioneers of "MMA style" martial arts. I suspect that this is one of the reasons why some of Khabibs crew including Islam do so well, its because they train in a style very catered towards MMA in a sense a "MMA" martial arts style that I do not think the competition is doing enough (I do know a lot of fighters train in ways catered towards MMA just not to this extent). For example a lot of fighters have black belts in BJJ but dont seemingly pull out those results in the cage as GI BJJ is very different from No Gi BJJ and extremely different from MMA BJJ, the point is not a lot of fighter have managed to cater their BJJ to be effective in MMA in contrast to Khabib's group which has adapted their Sambo, wrestling, Judo to be very effective in MMA.
