Mobile phone detection cameras

World-first mobile phone detection cameras will be rolled out across NSW from the end of the year to crack down on illegal mobile phone use by drivers.

The NSW Government’s recent pilot of the safety technology checked 8.5 million vehicles and detected more than 100,000 drivers using their phones illegally.

For the first 3 months, warning letters will be sent to all drivers caught using their phone illegally. After that, offending drivers will face a penalty of at least 5 demerits points and a $344 fine.
