Android audio latency vs iOS Core Audio

*update* Test with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean:

Demonstration of latency issues present on all Android devices.
This makes Android pretty much useless at playing live instruments or intitively playing synths in a DAW.
iOS on the other hand does not suffer from any noticeable lag. This is the main reason why there are no good music apps on Android so far.

iOS latency is 16ms round trip (8 in, 8 out). Android is closer to 60ms (30 in, 30 out). That's a huge difference - basically like the difference between ASIO and Direct Sound drivers.

I have heard about something like that. Still there is the problem that no one wants to make serious music apps for Android as long as the latency problems exist.

I have been screaming about this for years. It is even a little too high even on the best iOS apps, but it's so ridiculous on Android that you can be certain that nobody working on Android either cares or can do anything about the problem.

This issue is still present in Android 7.0 on Galaxy S8 - I tried many drumming apps, EVERY single one of them has an unacceptable latency (Real Drum, Electro Drum Pad, Drums - Pro drum set etc.).

The year is 2022 and android still has not found a solution to this problem. The delay is 20 ms even on the top model android device.

This is THE reason that I've been developing apps for iOS. I would have bought a nexus 7, instead of an iPad mini. Oh well, they'll get it right eventually. The question is: Will I care by then?

4 years later, Android still sucks in this regard.
Old as shit iPhone 4s - 7ms delay. Latest Snapdragon 650 based Android device - 50ms.

yep, that's android's biggest flaw in my opinion. WindowX though has managed to make a patch for nexus s and galaxy s called "fidelity"

android 4.3 supposedly reducing audio latency to 40ms as opposed to iOs 20ms.. difference getting closer:)

on est bien d'accord : Androïd lag et laguera toujours.
Pour un smartphone cependant je préfère l'utilisation d'Androïd bien plus simple et standard... et sympa aussi, qu'un IOS fermé sur lui même et toujours aussi peu personnalisable.
La fluidité je l'ai déjà sur ordi.

On parle de musique là, de créativité. Android est complètement fermé la dessus. Les widgets et autres conneries pour les mômes on s'en fout.
