I saw United do this against Arsenal as well. Only problem was the defending with Casamiro. The presence of Martinez made a huge difference

Said it early this morning when the lineup was leaked that from the lineup Ten Hag is looking to shut the midfield completely because Guardiola loves dominance in Central midfield so he trusted the fullbacks to defend the 1 on 1 situations well. And we have to give praise to Lisandro Martinez hasn't played for a while and did not look out of place even once ❤

The man got United into the Europa league and won a trophy 🏆 👏.

He showed other teams how to beat City.

Erik beat Pep on tactics, Pep didn’t show enough respect to the creative ability and left his defence exposed

Man city 1st half tactic - Cross to Haaland
Man city 2nd half tactic - Pass to Doku

Martinez, Mainoo, Fernandes are the player changed the game completely. With Martinez on the back and Mainoo in the middle, the build up is far more relaxed and easy under pressure.

One of Yuniteds best manager traits is beating Manchester city with fluid play and rigid defensive tactics to extend your life cycle in the job, I love my club

I think we don’t give enough credit to Amrabat, while he’s not creative with the ball at his feet, his defensive ability is quite high and we really need a Fred kind of player like that, maybe not long term but at least next season

I found it weird that City left so many gaps for united to exploit, and they did it perfectly almost every time, this was a big case of "playing their weaknesses" and it required a very well managed team, yes, I was surprised even though I'm a united supporter.

ETH should be given at least another year for him to prove his work-in-progress in his "Project". 2 years: 2 trophies in 3 finals is not a bad record. It's an obvious progress that even the blind and deaf could see and hear especially when considering the state of the team before his arrival. Also, still giving us a Europa League (even though it's not a Champion's League) opportunity is still cool.

This situation reminds me of Alex Ferguson's first few seasons in charge.
1989/90, finished 13th
Everyone thought he ought to be sacked. But he won the FA Cup so was allowed to stay.
1990/91, finished 6th
Won the Cup Winners' Cup & UEFA Super Cup.
1991/92, finished 2nd
1992/93 won the EPL
I hope Ten Hag is allowed to stay and similar success follows.
Due to the number of shots Man Utd concedes in each match, I was totally unimpressed by the way Ten Hag set up his team this season. But longevity of managers is usually the bedrock of success... like Liverpool, Man City & Arsenal. So I guess Ten Hag should get at least another season.

it’s just like liverpool did it with firmino. instead of having a striker who would get bullied anyway. beef up the numbers in midfield. there are 4 players centrally to combat foden rodri kovacic 3 city players. in terms of defending just textbook, keep it tight centrally and give up the width to them. bruno mainoo and dalot being right footed on left back were the key

Very good video, as always. I disagree with the manager ratings though. Tactically United were much better than City. Nullified them in the first half, and handled the pressure really well in the second half. It's not like City had a plethora of chances and missed all of them.

Ten Hag deserves a higher rating than Pep in this match, even without factoring in the difference in quality between the two teams and the different circumstances of each team's season.

Seems like Ten Hag really studied Man City vs Real Madrid. I remember Real Madrid using the same 424 shape out of possession and playing dangerous long balls vs City and succeeding. Ancelotti said that he studied Man City vs Arsenal to find City's weakness. In short, teams have figured out on how to stop Man City. Guardiola will have to come up with something else next season.

The key to beat Guardiola is simple... Dominate midfield, press well, play long balls, win first and second balls on both flanks... Attack through the flanks due to their inverted fullbacks ....BUT VERY VERY DIFFICULT TO ACTUALLY execute... You really need quality players with good ball control, vision and ball shielding abilities and passing skills.... You need to hold a high line and you will get caught in transitions .. But that's the name of the game

Seeing Man United side so well managed and calm was surprising even for United supporters… kudos to Ten Hag the man behind the whole operation

United had Licha and Varane healthy for the first time in months. That played a huge part.

Ten Hag gets a nine; perfect plan without the ball and let down by Onana's howler toward the end. Selections were perfect, subs were conservative but well timed, and the discipline of United was shockingly impressive.

Pep gets a two; he got his team selection totally wrong IMO. Stones hasn't played much of late (neither has Ake for that matter) and trying to play with high and wide fullbacks played right into United's plan to funnel the ball wide around the low block. Ortega/Gvardiol's error wasn't his fault, but Kovacic never should've started. He should have stuck with the 3-2-5 or 3-1-6 shape on the ball, with Doku and Silva high and wide, Akanji and Rodri as the pivots, and Walker and Gvardiol next to Dias while Foden and KDB roamed the half spaces and overloaded the left side with Doku's directness.

Side note- if that was the last we see of KDB in sky blue, it was a pretty pathetic way to go out. He was really dreadful today and I'm a little surprised that he seemed unwilling to drop deep and progress the ball up the pitch

Watched the post game talk between Rooney, Lineker and Micah afterwards. And Micah said the same the man-marking of KdB and Foden by Amrabat and Mainoo played a huge part.
